Women Literacy Program
Class of 2011
Selection criteria was based on the applicant’s motivation, enthusiasm to learn and past history of community involvement.
During selection process, priority was given to orphan’s girls from child headed households

Commencement day
Canterio International provided books, Pen, Pencils, text book, and school materials to women in the program. Also,
Kerosene lanterns (lamp oil)  was provided to all girls in child headed house hood  to use to practice reading
and complete assigned homework.

light to read adult literacy program. Most women did not get education because, their parents refuse to pay school fees to
educate them when they were young girls and,  young girls are forced into early marriage and discourage from going to
school..

happy to have the opportunity to be in class and study, they brought their children along for the experience.

Light to read
Adult Literacy Education for women and girls. Provides light to
support women's ability to learn reading, writing and practice numeracy at night.
The program will also allow school administrators to utilize the light
to prepare standard 8 students for primary school exit exams

Selections and Intake
The selection process included a village meeting where women had the opportunity to ask questions and provide input to the
program. The women decided to start their classes at 7pm after they put their kids to bed.
