PANGAEA PROJECT
The Pangaea theory states that all present continents were once together and collectively known as a 'supercontinent' called a Pangaea. The word 'Pangaea' is derived from Ancient Greek, pan, meaning entire and Gaea, meaning earth.
Our Pangaea Project is designed to bring students of the world closer together through education, interaction and shared experiences. The students will begin in the African country of Malawi. They will be exchanging "Day in the Life" videos made by US and Malawian students. These videos will depict the daily life of students in both countries.Viewing the videos will be the first step in their journey exploring the diversity of their cultures.
They will chat with Twitter, via blog and meet via web-cast. Teachers in both countries will be incorporating educational materials for the students. Class work in Science, Math and Social Studies will come to life as the students and their teachers ask questions and follow the work of Canterio International throughout Malawi.
Lesson plans will include materials on composting techniques, indigenous planting, nutrition and irrigation as well as sharing geography, topography and statistics about their respective countries. Students will be involved and engaged in the lesson plans. The students will gain invaluable knowledge in the classroom and beyond during this multicultural experience.
Educational Objectives: *Engage students by showing them practical application of their class work. *Empower students by proving they can make a difference in the world. *Provide a multicultural experience that will meet diversity requirements.
Our work in sub-Saharan Africa is helping orphans of HIV/AIDs. These children are not just poor, they are in crisis. Some are being raised by Aunts or Grandmothers but many are in child headed households. Our mission is to build education capacity by repairing schools, establishing libraries and improving nutrition. All our projects are designed to be sustainable and attempt to improve nutritional and educational conditions while mindful of recycling and producing minimal negative impact on the local and world environment.
